Not all retired Ex-Serviceman are eligible to apply. Only a disabled Ex-Serviceman who’s disability is 50 per cent or more and attributable to military service is eligible to apply under defence category quota. Also certain other conditions as laid down by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas are required.

Yes with effect form 4th Dec 2001 you are eligible to apply under 8 per cent Defence Category quota. Prior to 4th Dec 2001 widows whose annual income was above Rs 2 lakhs were not eligible to apply under 8 per cent Defence Category quota. This condition has been removed with effect from 4 Dec 2001 by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for widows of defence personnel.

If deceased soldier was married, in that case only his wife and children are entitled to apply in addition to his dependant brothers or sisters. You can apply only if you are a dependant.

What are other conditions laid down by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for applying under 8 per cent Defence Category Quota?
The following conditions are laid down by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The fulfillment of these conditions is a must to become eligible for issue of eligibility certificate for allotment of oil product agency. (a)Nationality : Indian (b)Age : Min 21 Years, Max 60 Years (For widows and ESM. Not more than 30 years for dependants.) (c)Education : Minimum matric or equivalent. (d)Residence : Any district in the same where agency is located.
